Boyd Unit, Teague TexasFrom Dallas or Houston:Exit I-45 at Hwy 84 (Exit 197, about 100 miles south of Dallas). Boyd Unit is five miles west of I-45 (towards Teague). Turn left when you see sign for Boyd. If you see a golf course, you have gone too far! Even though the address for Boyd is Teague, Boyd Unit is actually closer to Fairfield! From Austin: Take I-35 to Waco, about 1 hour 10 minutes from Round Rock (85 miles), 1 hour 30 minutes from central Austin. Take exit 339. Go east on Hwy 340 about one mile, take first exit at Hwy 84. Turn left under Hwy 340 and continue east on Hwy 84 to Mexia. In about 5 miles Hwy 84 "exits" to the right. Be sure to stay on Hwy 84 to Mexia! Go straight thru Mexia and continue on to Teague. There will be several "turn offs" to Teague. Stay on Hwy 84. Just after the last "turn off" to Teague you will see some school buildings on your right as Hwy 84 curves to the left. Five (5) miles later you will see a golf course. About 1/2 mile past the golf course you will see the TDCJ signs for the Boyd Unit. Turn right on Spur 113 to the Boyd unit. Distance from exit 339 in Waco to Spur 113 is about 56 miles. Drive time is about an hour. Drive times were taken at 7 AM to 9:30 AM on Saturday morning. Traffic could easliy add a 1/2 hour to the total trip time. It is a good idea to allow at least 3 hours travel time plus another 30 minutes for rest breaks. If you are coming to a Sunday closing, gate time is 2:30 PM, so you should leave central Austin at 11 AM if you are planning any stops. Some times the Control Tower checks your name, some times the front gate control checks ID. Inside the control picket checks your ID again. |
