Minutes of Steering Committee
Austin Convocation of Cursillo
Diocese of Texas
May 17, 1999
Ultreya St. George's Episcopal Church
with corrections from July 18th meeting

Steve opened with prayer.

In attendance were: Steve Ryder, Colette Foyt – St. Matthew's; Joe Nanus, St. George's, Jerry Lyle, St. Richard's, Wes Hiatt, St. Christopher's; Helen Paulsen, Resurrection; Jane Powers, St. John's; and Carolyn Stone, Trinity, Marble Falls.

Next Ultreya is June 20, sponsored by Trinity in Marble Falls beginning at 4:00 PM with a picnic dinner to take place at the Roper Ranch on Hwy 281 just North of 71.  Directions to this Ultreya will be coming from Steve as the date draws near.  Please encourage your community to attend.

Colette presented the Treasurer's report and explained that we had $150.00 more in donations than was previously reported due to uncashed checks that were submitted, so we are doing better in our contributions.  Also that $350.00 is being donated for the team in November and we may give more, based on the contributions ear marked November Cursillo.  A motion to approve this report was made and accepted.

Helen Paulsen offered to serve as secretary for the Steering Committee.  Helen's offer to serve was gratefully accepted by the committee, and the nomination for her appointment passed by acclamation.  (Cheers and ULTREYA!)

Joe's Secretariat report: Joel Jurasinski and Steve Ferguson reported that there is difficulty in finding clergy that would be involved in a Cursillo weekend.  They met with Bishop Alard and the bishop said he would encourage the clergy to participate.  The September Cursillo will be the first closing to be held at All Saint's Chapel at Camp Allen.  This will allow the team to have more discussion time after the talks on Sunday.  Joe also reported that Bishop Alard is concerned about the naming of the Cursillo's and the names given to the tables.  No decisions have been made; this is just a concern for the present time.

Also, there is discussion about having the Eucharist at the closing instead of at the weekend with only the team during the revised apostolic holy hour.  The homily will be the new community members expressing their understanding of the weekend.

On August 20, 1999 at 3:00 P.M. there will be dedication of All Saints Chapel at Camp Allen and the ordination of 2 people to the diaconate with a Bar B Q meal.  Information on reservations or other details are not available at this time.

The Secretariat changed its structure assuming the permission of the Bishop, to 5 general areas: Pre-cursillo, cursillo week, 4th day, better communication, and business and finance.

Rectors training for Cursillo's in the year 2000 will be on July 10, 1999 at Camp Allen.  The Rector's Manual is going to be revised.  One advantage is that a member of the Secretariat will be the rector of a weekend.  The chair thanked Joe for his report.

Steve reported that he and Peggy went to the Cattle Company at the end of the closing at the last Cursillo, and that no one showed up.  Discussion followed as to why we meet at the restaurant after the closing and that we need to agree on where to meet.  A decision was made to see what happens with the June and August closings.  After this the candidates will be coming from Camp Allen and changes will probably be made then.  Wes said that she would contact the folks in her church to see what they want to do.

Meeting adjourned.

Respectfully submitted,

Helen Paulsen, secretary
